Manish Harishankar Expresses Concern for Zeenat Aman; Urges the Film Industry to Take Notice

Mumbai, July 14, 2025 – Manish Harishankar, writer-director-producer of the upcoming web series Showstopper, has expressed deep concern for veteran actress Ms. Zeenat Aman, a legendary figure in Indian cinema and a key member of the Showstopper cast.

Mr. Harishankar had been in touch with Ms. Aman over the past month for publicity planning related to Showstopper, in which she plays a significant role. During this time, he was informed she was unwell and chose to wait respectfully for her recovery. On July 5th, she personally messaged him, sharing that she had been in the ICU and was still hospitalized. Moved by her situation, he extended his best wishes and offered his support. However, after not receiving further updates, he felt it necessary to bring the matter to public attention.

“Zeenat Aman ji is an irreplaceable part of Hindi cinema’s history. She has worked with legendary actors, directors, and production houses. Her body of work helped define an entire generation of Indian films. When I learned about her being in the ICU, I was deeply concerned. Her silence afterward only heightened my worry.”

He went on to address a broader issue that has long been a reality in the entertainment world.

“Unfortunately, our industry often overlooks its own once they are no longer in the spotlight. Many great artists, especially actresses, have faced difficult times in their later years without adequate recognition or support. I believe it’s important we acknowledge their legacy while they are with us and extend the respect and care they deserve.”

Mr. Harishankar urges the film fraternity, media, and audiences to extend their support and recognition to Ms. Aman and other senior artists who may be facing similar challenges.

“Zeenat ji’s contributions are timeless, and it’s our collective responsibility as an industry to stand by those who have shaped its legacy. She should know she’s remembered, respected, and valued.”
